Frequently Asked Questions

Will one unit really cover my whole home?
It moves 375 CFM on turbo, which is 2,800 sq ft once an hour or 1,400 sq ft every 30 minutes. That covers most open-plan main floors from a single central spot. Air does not travel through closed doors though, so if you want a bedroom cleaned overnight, put the unit in the bedroom rather than the hallway.
Is it quiet enough to sleep in the same room?
On speed 1 it runs at 25 dBA, which is quieter than a whisper, and Quiet Mark ranks it in the quietest 20% of purifiers sold. It puts out pink noise rather than a whine at every speed, which is why 93% of people in the SleepScore study reported better sleep. On turbo it reaches 51 dBA, about the level of a room fan on medium.
How much do replacement filters actually cost?
The Essential filter lasts 12 to 15 months running 24/7 and the Ultimate lasts 7 to 10 months. That is one filter a year for most homes, not one every three months like the cheap purifiers. Adding the spare filter to your order brings you to roughly two years of filtration and saves $59 against buying it later.
Which filter should I pick?
If your problem is dust, pollen, pet hair, dander or mould spores, Essential is all you need. If you also deal with smoke, cooking smells, pet odour or chemical fumes, take Ultimate: it is the same H13 True HEPA layer with an activated carbon catalyst added on top.
Does it produce ozone?
No. With the ioniser switched off it produces 0 PPM. Even with the ioniser on it measures under 0.001 PPM, far below the 0.05 PPM limit, and the ioniser is optional. The unit is Asthma & Allergy Friendly certified by AAFA, which does not certify ozone-generating products.
Are the lights annoying at night?
No. Auto Light Mode reads the room and dims the panel as it gets dark, and you can switch the lights off entirely while the fan keeps running. This was the single most common complaint about older Alen models and it is fixed on the 75i.
It is 27 lbs. Can I move it between rooms?
Yes, but it is not something you will want to carry upstairs daily. It stands 27 inches tall on a base and has a recessed handle, so sliding it across a floor or moving it room to room on one level is easy. Most owners buy one per floor and leave them in place.
Why is it so much cheaper here than everywhere else?
We are clearing this batch of stock. The price holds while the batch lasts and goes back to normal retail when the sale ends tonight.
What if it does not help?
You have 60 days. Run it, watch the air quality ring and see how you sleep. If it has not made a difference, send it back for a full refund.
How quickly will it arrive?
Free 2-day shipping in the US, dispatched within 24 hours of your order.

Why people buy one

You are already breathing it. You just cannot see it until the sun hits it.

“On sunny mornings I always saw so much dust floating around the room. I shuddered to think of all the stuff I was breathing. The day I got my Alen I set it up and left it on all night. The next morning the sun came streaming in and there was absolutely nothing floating in the air.”

Overview

A large-room air purifier that is quiet enough to sleep beside and cheap enough to leave running. It pulls the whole room through a medical-grade H13 True HEPA filter and tells you, by colour, how dirty the air was.

  • 375 CADR, which is 1,400 sq ft every 30 minutes or 2,800 sq ft an hour

The setting most owners run day to day. Enough turnover to keep pollen and dander from settling back out of the air.

Best for: Large bedrooms, offices, studios, classrooms

Air does not pass through closed doors. If you want a bedroom cleaned overnight, put the unit in the bedroom rather than the hallway.

What a year of clean air actually costs

Cheap purifiers hide the cost in the filters. A $120 unit that needs a $40 filter every three months costs $160 a year to run. The 75i takes one filter a year and draws as little as 1.4 watts, so after the first 12 months it is the cheaper machine to own, and it is clearing twenty times the floor area while it does it.

In the Box

  • BreatheSmart 75i purifier
  • One True HEPA filter, pre-installed
  • Designer panel in your chosen finish
  • Power adapter with a 7 ft cord

Filtration

A vacuumable pre-filter catches hair and lint, then a medical-grade H13 True HEPA layer removes 99.9% of airborne particles larger than 0.1 micron: pollen, dust, dander, mould spores, bacteria and smoke particulate. The Ultimate filter adds an activated carbon catalyst for smoke, VOCs and household odour.

What you actually live with, day to day, once the Alen BreatheSmart 75i is in the room

Quiet enough to sleep next to

25 dBA on speed 1 is below a whisper, and every speed puts out pink noise rather than a fan whine. Quiet Mark tested it into the quietest 20% of purifiers on sale, and in the SleepScore study 93% of people said they slept better with one in the room.

It shows you the air

A laser SmartSensor reads the room and turns the ring blue through to red. You stop guessing whether it is working. You watch it go red when you cook and back to blue twenty minutes later.

One filter a year, not four

The Essential filter runs 12 to 15 months at 24/7 and the Ultimate 7 to 10. The unit remembers remaining filter life even if you swap panels, and the app tells you before it matters. No cartridge subscription treadmill.

Six finishes, so it can stay in the room

Most purifiers look like office equipment and end up hidden behind a sofa where they cannot pull air. The magnetic designer panel comes in White, Oak, Weathered Gray, Brushed Stainless, Graphite and Espresso, and swaps in seconds without tools.

Energy Star named it one of 2025's Most Efficient. Running it around the clock costs roughly the same as a couple of LED bulbs, which is the point. A purifier only works if you actually leave it on.

Set it once, then forget it

The Alen Air app handles schedules, air-quality alerts and filter reminders across every unit in the house. Auto Light Mode dims the panel as the room darkens, and you can switch the lights off completely while the fan keeps running.

Clean and clear air

We use a wood burning stove for heat. On sunny mornings, when sunlight streamed through the windows, I always saw so much dust and other particulate matter floating around the room. As the afternoon sun came in the sliding glass doors there was so much stuff in the air I shuddered to think of all the stuff I was breathing. The day I received my Alen BreatheSmart air purifier I set it up and left it on all night. Imagine my amazement when the morning sun came streaming in and I saw absolutely nothing floating around in the air. Later that afternoon, same story. I am so happy with my purifier. I only wish I had bought it sooner!

So great I keep buying more

I came online to get a new filter (which lasts over a year) and saw there was a larger, quieter system. So I bought this one to upgrade the older Alen in our rather large living room. It moves more air and is even quieter. The one it replaced went into my office. We've got them in all of our bedrooms now. They've been running solid for years. Our first one that I just moved is over 6 years old and as good as new still. With these we have major reductions in dust. Don't even notice our allergies. And the house always smells clean.

Long review, worth the investment

Living in Austin, TX, allergies are bad, like #26 worst city in the entire nation bad. Between the dogs and just the location, we are on a first name basis with our ENT and have severe allergies that turn into sinus infections at least 6x a year. It's that bad. The ENT told me to move after my allergy test. The unit itself is big, so be aware of that. Is it pretty? No. Does that matter if it works? To us, no. Make sure you buy based on your square footage. We ended up placing several around the downstairs. Don't butt them against the wall either, they need room to collect air. They are VERY easy to put together and the lights are simple to understand. Running 24/7/365 and have not had one issue at all. The main light on the top indicates air quality; red = bad, yellow = OK, blue = good. It's a great way to keep track of how the air quality is throughout the day.

Got rid of our sniffles and sneezes

A couple of weeks before we bought this, I was watching dust swirl through sunbeams in our main room when I thought, "That's what we're breathing right now!" Everyone in the family was having respiratory problems: sniffles, sneezing, asthma, itchy eyes. Now that we've had it for two months, I can say with confidence: it works. Shine a sunbeam or a flashlight through the room and the dust particles are far fewer. Everyone's breathing better. And you can see the hoards of dust on the filter when you take off the cover, and yet we haven't needed to replace it, and it looks like we have several more months to go. On the high setting it's like a room fan on medium. On the low setting it's barely noticeable. When company's over we have it on low, otherwise we leave it on auto.

Do not let the initial price scare you

I've had this since March 11. It is whisper quiet. The colors change when there's stuff in the air. Best part, it's energy efficient. Quiet, and you're not buying filters every couple of months. It does large areas. Do not let the initial price scare you. You will save money over the long run in energy bills and filters.
